Dental Check-up

A dental check-up is a routine examination to assess your teeth, gums and overall oral health. It helps your dentist spot early signs of decay, gum problems, wear, infection or changes in your mouth before they become more complex.

At Prem Dent, we offer dental check-ups in Elephant & Castle for adults and families looking for clear, practical advice about their oral health. Your dentist will examine your mouth, discuss any concerns you have, and explain whether treatment is needed, without pressure or unnecessary recommendations.

Regular dental examinations are also a good opportunity to review old fillings, tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums, jaw discomfort, broken teeth or changes in your bite. If treatment is recommended, we will talk you through your options, costs and next steps before anything begins.

What happens during a dental check-up?

During your appointment, your dentist will carefully examine your teeth, gums, soft tissues and bite. They may also check existing fillings, crowns or bridges, and look for signs of tooth wear, decay, gum disease or infection.

If X-rays are needed, we will explain why before taking them. After the examination, your dentist will discuss what they have found and give you a clear treatment plan if anything needs attention.

When should you book a dental check-up?

You do not need to wait until something hurts. Many dental problems are easier to treat when they are found early, which is why regular check-ups are important even if your teeth feel fine.

You should book an appointment if you notice toothache, sensitivity, bleeding gums, bad breath, a broken tooth, a lost filling, discomfort when chewing, or if it has been a long time since your last dental examination.

How often do I need a check-up?

There’s no single answer that fits everyone. Your dentist sets a recall interval based on your oral health, gum condition, decay risk and dental history, typically somewhere between 3 and 24 months.

Many patients land around the six-month mark, but if your teeth and gums are in good shape, that interval can stretch. If something needs closer attention, it can shorten. Either way, it’s reviewed at every visit, not fixed once and forgotten.

Clear advice before treatment

If your check-up shows that treatment is needed, we will explain the problem, the available options and the cost before starting. This may include fillings, hygiene treatment, crowns, root canal treatment, extractions or referral to another service within the clinic. If nothing needs treatment, we’ll tell you that too. If something does, you’ll know the problem, the options and the next step before you leave.
