Mouthguards
A mouthguard protects your teeth, whether from grinding at night or impact during sport. We offer custom-made guards for both, fitted from an impression of your own teeth, which fit and protect far better than anything bought off the shelf.
Michigan splint (night guard)
A hard acrylic splint worn at night to protect your teeth from grinding and clenching (bruxism) and to ease strain on your jaw joint. It covers the biting surfaces of your upper teeth, creating an even, stable bite so your muscles and jaw joint aren’t working against your own teeth all night.
Worth having if you’re waking up with jaw ache, headaches, or worn, flattened or chipped teeth, or if a partner’s mentioned you grind in your sleep. Left unmanaged, grinding wears down enamel over years and adds strain that can contribute to jaw joint problems.
Sports mouthguards
Custom-fitted from an impression, so it stays in place and doesn’t interfere with breathing or talking the way a boil-and-bite guard does.
Soft guards suit most sports, football, basketball, netball, cycling, where the main risk is a knock or fall rather than repeated heavy contact.
Hard or dual-laminate guards give more protection for higher-contact sports, rugby, hockey, boxing and martial arts, where impact force is greater and more frequent.
Getting fitted
We take an impression or digital scan of your teeth, and your guard is made to that exact shape. You’ll come back for a fitting to check comfort and bite before you take it away.
Caring for your mouthguard
Rinse it after every use and clean it with a soft, dedicated toothbrush, not the one you use on your teeth, and don’t use toothpaste, it’s abrasive and will scratch and dull the material over time. Don’t use hot water either, it can warp the guard. Store it in its case, not loose in a bag, and keep it away from direct heat. Bring it to your check-ups so we can make sure it still fits well, your bite and jaw position can shift slightly over time. Replace it if it’s cracked, loose, or you’re a child or teenager whose teeth are still developing.
